At the top of Sylvia Hill

Labuan Bajo (Part. 1) – Batu Cermin Cave and Sylvia Hill

Hi, Labuan Bajo!

This year my family and I spent our holiday in Labuan Bajo, which is known for its dragon, Komodo dragon. Labuan Bajo located in Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. We started this trip from Surabaya and had a direct flight to Labuan Bajo because there wasn’t a direct flight from Solo (my hometown). After one and a half hours of flying, we arrived in Labuan Bajo and were welcomed by our local guide. The first place that we visited was Gua Batu Cermin, which located near Komodo airport.

Headed to Batu Cermin Cave

Only in a few minutes, we arrived in Gua Batu Cermin. We were accompanied by a guide while we walked around the place (don’t forget to give them a tip). Along the way to the cave, we walked under some bamboo trees, and the fresh air really comforted me!

After we arrived in this cave, we went upstairs and reached the cave mouth. We used a helmet and held a flashlight (or the flash in your smartphone) before explored this cave. Inside this cave, there were many beautiful stalactites and stalagmites shape. At the end of this cave, there was a hole from the ceiling of this cave, that made the sunlight penetrated beautifully. Unfortunately, we came here when it was cloudy outside, so the sunlight was not so bright.

My first trekking experience in Sylvia Hill

The next destination was Sylvia Hill, one of the best sunset spots in Labuan Bajo. Actually, this was my first trekking experience, and I have a problem with fear of heights! A decision between my fear and excitement, but I still chose to trek. Slowly but finally, I could reach the top of Sylvia Hill.. yeah!! On the top, I was really grateful for His amazing grace and this beautiful view, amazing!

Little trekking tips from me, you should use comfortable footwear because this track was sandy. You could step on a big rock or walk on sloping areas. Because I was afraid of heights, sometimes I squatted when I trekked down. Fortunately, we came here on the first day, so I had a trekking experience for the next day.

My fear was paid off by this beautiful view

We went down before sunset because it was cloudy, and the wind blew hard too. After that, we had dinner, checked in to the hotel, and take a rest. Ready for tomorrow 😀 (JUNE 2019)
